What is a subluxation?

Improper motion or position of the moving bones in the spine is called a subluxation. A subluxation can interfere with the vital exchanges of nerve information by causing irritation to the nerves and compromising the ftinction of affected tissues and organs.

How do I get a subluxation?

There are three basic causes of subluxation. Physical causes include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions and improper lifting. Emotions such as fear, grief, stress and anger can cause subluxations. Chemical causes could include alcohol, drugs, pollution and poor diet.

How do I get rid of a subluxation?

Sometimes, subluxations can clear up on their own. Today’s hectic lifestyles are a constant source of subluxations. Fortunately, our bodies have the ability to self- correct many problems as we bend and stretch and even when we sleep. What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment usually involves a quick thrust that helps add motion to the non-mobile joint that isn’t moving correctly. Some methods use the doctor’s hands, another uses an instrument or a special table or even just light force of gravity. There are many ways to adjust the spine and joints.

Are adjustments safe?

YES!! A New Zealand government study found that adjustments are “remarkably safe”. By avoiding drugs and risky surgery, chiropractic care enjoys an excellent record. A thorough exam can identify the rare person whom chiropractic care might not be suited. Compare the statistics. Adjustments are about 100 times safer than taking over the counter pain relievers and drugs.

My friend can “pop: his own neck by twisting it. Is that an adjustment?

NO! Some people can make themselves “pop” but that can be very dangerous, even fatal. Damage may be caused by self-popping due to the joint becoming weakened with lax ligaments and weak muscles. These muscles and ligaments help protect the delicate spinal cord from outside forces such as those done by non-specific seif-poppers. These are NOT adjustments. Adjustments are specific and require years to master. Even you doctor of chiropractic will visit a colleague for a chiropractic adjustment.

I’ve had back problems for years, can chiropractic help me?

Your doctor of chiropractic will provide a thorough exam to find the cause of your problem. Your chiropractor considers the unique circumstances of each patient when developing a care plan. There are many ways to adjust the spine. The method selected will be the best suited to your age, size and even babies have had tremendous success and relief with chiropractic adjustments.

Will I ever be normal again?
